July 9, 2024 by Cynthia Closkey Mon Valley communities are close-knit and have developed strong social and communal networks. Yet, families continue to struggle financially. The Mon Valley Initiative works with individuals to overcome these barriers to financial stability. They provide financial coaching, help secure sustainable employment, and offer benefits screening for food stamps, Medical Assistance, and other vital programs. 121 Jefferson area residents increased their incomes due to securing employment and/or more skilled financial management via MVI’s Workforce and Financial Coaching. In total, 122 unique employers hired MVI participants, including companies from the manufacturing, customer service, hospitality, and healthcare industries. Average starting wages were over $16/hour.
