Increasing diversity and new Census 2020 data prompted the Foundation into a data project to learn more about our changing South Hills and lower Mon Valley communities. The Foundation is partnering with international consulting firm Fourth Economy Consulting and the University of Pittsburgh Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) to develop an analysis of the Jefferson Regional Foundation Service Area, its residents, needs, and assets. This project titled “Surprise in the Suburbs: Our Changing Communities” focuses on changing demographics, economic mobility, and community health to tell the story of an evolving Jefferson Area; it’s strengths and opportunities. This project comprises issue briefs, nonprofit partner narratives, a data story map, and 38 community snapshots featuring quick facts about Jefferson municipalities and school districts.
Elements of this project will be delivered throughout the year, with materials posted here to tell the story of strengths and opportunities in an evolving Jefferson area.
