Youth and Family Support | FY 2022 - 2023

Promoting Positive Development for South Hills Youth

Posted July 7, 2024

Support positive development for youth and their caregivers in South Park, Baldwin-Whitehall, and Bethel Park by providing afterschool and summer programming focused on educational, social-emotional, and cultural life challenges.

July 7, 2024 by Cynthia Closkey

Melting Pot Ministries (MPM) was founded when five churches in the lower South Hills became formally unified—“melted” into one—to help meet a rising tide of community needs. MPM works to improve the education, health, and well-being of young people in their community.

MPM now provides after-school programs, summer camps, one-on-one academic coaching, tutoring and mentoring, workshops, events, and family retreats.

To date, 93% of participants in MPM’s programs graduate from high school or have gone on to seek some form of higher education. And 80% of those children regularly attending the after-school program raised their reading and/or math skills during the 2023-24 school year. 100% of the active participants advance to the next grade level.

MPM is a Black-led organization primarily serving children of color and offers role modeling using a racially affirming approach. It operates in Baldwin-Whitehall, South Park, and Bethel Park.
