July 9, 2024 by Jefferson Regional Foundation The statistics are alarming: more than 20% of children in some Mon Valley school districts have asthma, compared to about 10% statewide. These are the findings of a 2022 study published in the Journal of Asthma. Untreated asthma can lead to reduced learning capabilities and significantly impact youth development. Duquesne University Center for Integrative Health (DUCIH) has continued to monitor asthma in our region and bring education and support to our schools. The grant supports DUCIH’s “Bridges to Health” (B2H) program, which expands their work in school-based asthma programming and also includes programs addressing high rates of other chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
