New Grants Awarded: Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Updated March 2025 Feminine Hygiene Products in Public Libraries Allegheny County Library Association $25,000 Increase health and well-being by offering free feminine hygiene products in the Jefferson area’s 10 public libraries via a wall-mounted dispenser in each restroom and adding “period kits” for young library patrons which include feminine hygiene products and informational literature about period health. Talent Attraction Program Allegheny Health Network/Jefferson Hospital $100,000/year totaling $200,000 Support a unique work-study program which aims to increase the number of diverse candidates for competitive employment at AHN Jefferson Hospital and remove identified barriers to success across various allied health fields. Home Fire Campaign for the Mon Valley American National Red Cross $25,000 Increase health, well-being, and home safety by providing direct assistance to Jefferson individuals/families who experience a fire and continue programming to reduce injury and death from fires through partnerships with local fire departments. Critical Airway Management Technology Baldwin Emergency Medical Service $60,000 Improve airway management in residents living in Jefferson communities experiencing respiratory distress or cardiac arrest by purchasing new video laryngoscopes. Baldwin EMS transports an estimated 6,000 patients annually to Jefferson Hospital. Supporting Out-of-School Time Programming Best of the Batch Foundation $50,000 Through general operational support, strengthen Best of the Batch’s ability to provide quality out-of-school time programs to hundreds of children and their families living in the Jefferson footprint. S.T.E.A.M.ing into the Future Bethel Park School District $10,000 Provide the Bethel Park community an outdoor classroom to provide play and learning opportunities for youth ages 5-10 which will also improve the academic performance of students (K-5th grade) in Bethel Park School District and increase their satisfaction of the educational experience. Sustaining Holistic Immigrant & Refugee Community Health Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh $100,000/year totaling $300,000 Strengthen healthy opportunities and options for members of the local Bhutanese community by building and retaining staff capacity and moving forward with a strategic planning process. Providing Safety in Inclement Weather City of Clairton $4,000 Increase health and well-being for residents in Clairton and neighboring communities by purchasing supplies to create a warming and cooling station for use during inclement weather. Addressing Food Insecurity with Choice Cloverleaf Area Ecumenical Assistance Program $20,000 Increase health and well-being by supporting food distribution and the purchase of grocery gift cards which provide choice and dignity to neighbors in Pleasant Hills, Jefferson Hills, Baldwin, Whitehall, South Park, and West Mifflin. Addressing Food Insecurity Divine Restoration Outreach Ministries $50,000 Increase health and well-being by supporting ongoing efforts to supply healthy nutritious meals to residents of Duquesne and surrounding communities through weekly food bank distributions, bi-weekly food deliveries to older adults, monthly hot meals for families, and food distribution through Duquesne School District. Mobile Services Workforce Development Events Dress for Success Pittsburgh $125,000/year totaling $250,000 Increase the confidence and capacity of 900 local female residents annually preparing to enter the workforce by providing each woman with appropriate interview clothing, uniform items, and career support delivered through a mobile boutique in partnership with Jefferson area organizations. Youth Diversion Program Foundation of Hope $75,000 Provide support to educate and equip young people who have interacted with the criminal justice system with the resources, support, and personal tools necessary to make safe, healthy, informed, life-affirming choices in partnership with Clairton and McKeesport school districts. Community Partners Program Global Links $80,000 Provide needed surplus medical supplies through partnerships with Jefferson human service agencies serving older adults and/or low-income individuals to increase organizational capacity and to ensure that individuals have the necessary supplies to lead healthy lives and maintain their independence. Addressing Food Insecurity Heritage Community Initiatives $75,000 Increase health and well-being by supporting food planning and the distribution of over 96,000 meals to 14 locations in Brentwood, Port Vue, McKeesport, Duquesne (2), Munhall (2), McKeesport, Homestead (2), Munhall, Whitehall, South Versailles, and West Mifflin. Operating Support to Promote Health and Well-Being Human Services Center Corporation $75,000/year totaling $150,000 Through general operational support, strengthen HSCMV’s ability to provide successful transitions to career and college for high school seniors attending West Mifflin and McKeesport high schools, assist adults on the path to self-sufficiency, and provide basic services for health and well-being. Meeting Emergency Needs of Resettled Refugees JFCS $200,000 Increase the health and wellness of refugee families living in Jefferson communities by providing emergency assistance for three resettlement agencies (JFCS, Hello Neighbor, and AJAPO) serving 159 newly arrived refugee families impacted by the stop work order issued by the federal government. Addressing Basic Needs Macedonia Family & Community Enrichment Center $60,000 Increase health and well-being of residents living in the Jefferson footprint by providing operating support to address the needs of families experiencing temporary hardship primarily with rent, utilities, and food. Early Learning and Capacity-Building Maple Unified Student Academy, Inc. $80,000 Expand capacity for organizational growth and support consistent, high-quality, low-cost preschool and out-of-school time programming for over 100 youth and their families in Munhall, Homestead, West Homestead, McKeesport, and West Mifflin. Providing Human Milk for Medically Vulnerable Infants Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank $30,000 Support the operations of the regional donor milk bank to increase the quality of life for babies and their families, reduce health disparities, and reduce the costs of caring for premature infants. Supporting Basic Needs and Building Organizational Capacity New Evangelistic Ministry $20,000 Provide 50 families and children in Duquesne with basic needs support (food, clothing, transportation, personal hygiene) and build organizational capacity through the assistance of a strategic consultant. Elevating Community: Environmental Justice Table Nine Mile Run Watershed Association $65,000 Increase capacity to convene and manage the Environmental Justice Table (EJT), a resident/community-driven initiative that aims to raise community voice, advocacy, and education on environmental issues in McKeesport, Clairton, and Duquesne through partial support of a Mon Valley Environmental Justice Coordinator. RISE Employment Services for Immigrants Pennsylvania Women Work $45,000 Prepare work-authorized new Americans residing in Jefferson communities for life-sustaining employment opportunities by providing instruction, individualized counseling, mentorship, and short-term training. Addressing Food Insecurity and Capacity-Building Grant Rainbow Kitchen Community Services $60,000 Increase health and well-being by providing multiple food distributions, resource fairs, vision resources, case management, and coat/holiday distributions to thousands of residents in Homestead, West Homestead, West Mifflin, Munhall, Whitaker, and Duquesne. Expanding Early Literacy Access and Engagement Reading Ready Pittsburgh $75,000/year totaling $150,000 Strive to impact long-term educational and health outcomes by supporting engagement of early literacy in families with young children. Strengthening Services, Infrastructure and Fiscal Health South Hills Interfaith Ministries $100,000/year totaling $300,000 Provide operational support to enhance services, to invest in infrastructure for greater community impact, and to ensure fiscal health for long-term outcomes to increase overall health and wellbeing for thousands of residents living in the Jefferson footprint. Addressing Food Insecurity St. Paul AME Church of McKeesport $15,000 Increase health and well-being by providing a food pantry to neighbors in Clairton, Glassport, Dravosburg, Duquesne, McKeesport, Port Vue, and Versailles through distributions twice each month. Providing Essential School Supplies to Promote Learning Storehouse for Teachers dba The Education Partnership $100,000 Improve the long-term overall health and well-being and educational outcomes of students attending five schools in Clairton, Duquesne, and McKeesport by providing new, essential school supply kits to all students, as well as creating teacher supply closets at the schools. South Showroom: West Mifflin Location The Blessing Board $75,000 Increase the quality of life and overall health and wellness for families and individuals experiencing low-income status living in the Jefferson Regional service area by supporting the operations and sustainability of a furniture bank in West Mifflin. Addressing Gun Violence The New Sun Rising (fiscal sponsor for the MOMs Group) $17,000 Increase health and well-being for mothers in the Jefferson footprint who have lost their sons to gun violence via support groups, peer support, legacy projects, and advocating for a future without violence. Water Quality and Well-Being Three Rivers Waterkeeper $35,000 Provide opportunities to listen to concerns from community advisors around water quality and offer educational resources focused on watersheds and waterways to mitigate the impact of industrial pollution. Beyond the Classroom United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania $50,000 Increase capacity and provide flexible funding via a competitive process for five Jefferson area out-of-school time providers (OST) to address challenges related to food, transportation, staff training/development, facility repairs, and essential supplies so they can continue to meet the needs of children and families in the Jefferson footprint. Just Discipline Project at Duquesne University of Pittsburgh – School of Social Work/Center on Race and Social Problems $80,000 in year one and $70,000 in year two totaling $150,000 Support the implementation of restorative practice programming to reduce suspensions and improve school climate and school achievement for 500 children and their teachers in Duquesne City School District. Sensory Success: Creating Calm, Focus, and Growth for All Learners West Jefferson Hills School District $10,000 Improve the long-term overall health and well-being and academic engagement of special education students at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School by creating a sensory room to address sensory processing challenges, autism spectrum disorders, and emotional regulation difficulties. Mon Valley Clean Air Fund Grants Drive-Up Food Distribution Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank $25,000 Communities Served: Clairton, McKeesport, Glassport, Elizabeth, West Mifflin, and West Elizabeth Minimize food insecurity through a drive-up food distribution in Clairton, which serves more than 325 households each month from Clairton, McKeesport, Glassport, Elizabeth, West Mifflin, and West Elizabeth, and provides individuals and families with produce, dairy, eggs, and other grocery staples. Community Garden and Food Pantry Support Greater Valley Community Services Inc. $10,000 Communities Served: Braddock and North Braddock Minimize food insecurity by contributing to environmental sustainability through a community garden and food pantry. This project will serve residents in Braddock and North Braddock and educate youth and older adults on planting and producing food. Addressing Food Insecurity Heritage Community Initiatives $15,000 Communities Served: Braddock, North Braddock, North Versailles, and East Pittsburgh Increase health and well-being by supporting food planning and the distribution of over 42,860 meals to five locations serving residents from Braddock, North Braddock, North Versailles, and East Pittsburgh in an effort to support a healthy community as described by residents. Ensuring Indoor Air Quality LaRosa Youth Development Foundation $6,000 Communities Served: McKeesport Ensure healthy indoor air quality for 100 McKeesport youth and families by assisting with the purchase of replacement air filters. Maintaining a Community Asset Mon/Yough Trail Council (MYTC) $15,000 Communities Served: Port Vue, Liberty, Lincoln, and Elizabeth Township Promote public health and overall well-being via access to a maintained natural environment as requested by community residents. This community hiking and biking trail extends through the boroughs of Port Vue, Liberty, Lincoln, and Elizabeth Township. Elevating Community: Environmental Justice Table Nine Mile Run Watershed Association $45,000 Communities Served: Braddock, North Braddock, Clairton, Duquesne, East Pittsburgh, and McKeesport Provide continued opportunity for a resident/community-driven initiative that aims to lift community voice in the discussion and education of environmental factors facing residents of Braddock, North Braddock, Clairton, Duquesne, East Pittsburgh, and McKeesport that impact their public health for the purpose of creating community-based solutions and increased health and well-being. Eliminating Illegal Trash Dumping to Increase Public Health PA CleanWays of Allegheny County Inc $30,000 Communities Served: Braddock, East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, North Braddock, North Versailles, and Wall Engage and empower residents of Braddock, East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, North Braddock, North Versailles, and Wall to eliminate illegal dumping by participating in land cleanups, water cleanups and environmental education. Addressing Food Insecurity Including Mobile Distributions to Older Adults This Generation Connect $50,000 Communities Served: East Pittsburgh and neighboring communities Engage and empower residents of Braddock, East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, North Braddock, North Versailles, and Wall to eliminate illegal dumping by participating in land cleanups, water cleanups and environmental education. Tree Planting for Clean Air Tube City Renaissance $35,000 Communities Served: McKeesport Increase the City of McKeesport’s tree canopy which will reduce heat, improve air quality, and enhance the overall environmental quality of the city with the support of an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. Ensuring Indoor Air Quality with Air Filters and Education Valley Clean Air Now $75,000 Communities Served: Braddock, North Braddock, Wall, North Versailles, East Pittsburgh, East McKeesport, McKeesport, and Duquesne Increase indoor air quality and the health of well-being of 600 households in Braddock, North Braddock, Wall, North Versailles, East Pittsburgh, East McKeesport, McKeesport, and Duquesne through the distribution of and education on portable air filters designed to clean the air from the specific pollutants found in the communities. This will complement the current planned distribution of filters to Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin, West Elizabeth, Dravosburg, Pleasant Hills, and Elizabeth Township funded by other partners. Green Space and Community Garden Watersheds of South Pittsburgh $30,000 Communities Served: Clairton Support improving green space and the Clairton Community Garden to provide education and fresh produce to Clairton residents.
