The Jefferson Regional Foundation awards $1.67 million in the first full year of grantmaking.

Eight grants totaling $502,260 were awarded in the Increasing Health Access and Prevention priority. These include a partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department to implement the Live Well Allegheny initiative in the Mon Valley and returning local patients home from Jefferson Hospital through use of a dedicated wheelchair ambulance van.

Improving Child and Family Outcomes grant awards included projects which support new families and align with Jefferson Hospital’s new Women and Infants Center obstetrics unit. The Foundation awarded 10 grants in this category totaling $549,000 including an innovative text mentoring program for new parents.

Strengthening Vulnerable Populations and Communities grant awards build capacity among identified populations and in local communities. With 40% of the county’s immigrant and refugee community living in the South Hills, several grant awards are directed to support those residents. Grants also focused on supporting local seniors and on executing coaching of nonprofit leaders. The Foundation awarded 9 grants in this category totaling $544,000.
The Foundation also sponsored two events totaling $75,000; the 2015 AHN Golf Outing and the 2015 Jefferson Hospital Annual Gala.
