October 3, 2025 by Isaiah Warfield The Jefferson Regional Foundation board and staff are deeply grieved by the loss of life and the injuries sustained during the tragic incident at the Clairton Works plant of U.S. Steel. Our thoughts remain with the families, workers, and community members affected by this tragedy. In response, and in alignment with our mission to advance the health and well-being of residents across our region, the Foundation has distributed four emergency grants to local nonprofit partners who are on the ground supporting recovery efforts and addressing community needs. Emergency grants have been awarded to: The Unity Group of Clairton Take Action Advocacy Group Valley Clean Air Now Women for a Healthy Environment These organizations are working closely with residents, advocates, and local leaders to provide immediate support, address health and environmental concerns, and promote community resilience. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the Clairton community and appreciative of the many partners contributing to the response effort. This includes first responders, nonprofit organizations, and the medical staff of AHN Jefferson Hospital, who continue to provide essential care and comfort to those impacted. The Foundation will continue to monitor emerging needs and collaborate with community partners to ensure resources are directed where they are most needed.
